Bispeengbuen is a 6-lane expressway carried on pillars through a densely built residential area on the border between the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.

Where Bispeengbuen stands today, there used to be a wet meadow. Through this meadow ran the Ladegård Stream. The road was built on a bridge in order not to act as a barrier through the area. However, the local housing associations believe this has failed and continuously work to transform the area into a more attractive oasis, including proposals to reopen the Ladegård Stream.

Bispeengbuen was constructed between 1970 and 1972. The project was initiated by Nybyg A/S, which, however, went bankrupt before completion. The work was taken over and finished by H. Hoffmann & Sønner A/S.

The bridge was inaugurated on 31 August 1972 amid strong protests from local residents, who displayed black flags in the area. A bomb threat was called in to the police, who decided to open the bridge to traffic four hours earlier than planned in order to avoid demonstrations.
